Recently, many of us from Abacus gathered at Lake Eola to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s for Greater Orlando. Our employees, along with their families and friends, came together for a cause that touches so many of us.

We were honored to serve as the Blue Flower Presenting Sponsor, and our Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Smith delivered remarks on behalf of Abacus at the opening ceremony. Walking alongside thousands of others in support of Alzheimer’s care, research, and support was deeply gratifying and another example of how Abacus continues to find ways of actively participating in our community.
Why This Matters
Across the flywheel, Abacus’ different businesses all depend on a deep and accurate understanding of longevity. We study how people age and then help people plan for their futures. But longevity without health (without cognitive function, independence, or the ability to know and love the people around you) is not the future anyone envisions.
When you’re in the business of helping people live longer, you can’t ignore the question of how they live. With a diagnosis that is both devastating and common like Alzheimer’s, the more research, care, support, and attention, the better. And the Alzheimer’s Association is leading the way in fighting on behalf of people with Alzheimer’s and their families.
Community
Just as important as investing in research is being in community. The Walk welcomed thousands of people, some walking in memory of someone they loved, some walking in support of someone currently struggling, and some walking in solidarity with friends and family impacted by Alzheimer’s.
We were proud that so many members of our team showed up and demonstrated our support for this cause. It goes to show, yet again, that we’re not just in Orlando because it’s a good place to do business. We’re happy to call Orlando home, raise our families, and give back to our local community.
Thank you to the Alzheimer’s Association for leading this fight and to everyone who organized the walk. And thank you to everyone from Abacus who came out to Lake Eola. You made us proud.
